Welcome to the City of London, Housing Division

The City of London, Housing division administers Social Housing Programs such as the Private Non-Profit Housing Program (both Federal and Provincial providers) and the Co-operative Housing Program.  These communities are owned and operated on a not-for-profit basis by community based boards.

Within the Middlesex County region, there are 64 private non-profit and cooperative Housing Corporations, governed by Boards of Directors who are responsible for the overall management of the buildings.

Private Non-Profits are owned by sponsor organizations such as churches and service clubs. They are either self-managed or managed through a property management company. Most of the Non-Profit and Co-op units are designated for RGI Housing while the rest are market rent (not subsidized).  Market rent applicants apply directly to the non-profit.

Co-operative Non-Profits are similar to other non-profit housing corporations; however, each resident becomes a member and has a say in how the co-operative is operated.  Each member is expected to help in the day-to-day operations and the Board of Directors is established from members of the co-operative.

London and Middlesex Housing Corporation is responsible for public housing property management functions and administers the rent supplement program.  It is located at 379 Dundas Street, Suite 207, and is responsible for the management of 3282 rent-geared-to-income public housing units in 31 social housing buildings.

Co-ordinated access has been undertaken by the Housing Division at its Housing Access Centre since December 16, 2002. The Housing Access Centre is responsible for establishing and maintaining a Common Waiting List System and serves as a centralized source of information, application intake and initial eligibility screening.

THE DR. ALBERT ROSE BURSARY PROGRAM

The Dr. Albert Rose bursary program was established in 1984 by the Ontario Mortgage and Housing Corporation to help social housing tenants with the costs of a post secondary education.  The program is named in honour of the late Dr. Albert Rose who dedicated his life's work to education and social housing.
