Welcome To The City of London
    HOUSING DIVISION

The City of London, Housing division administers Social Housing Programs such as:

    • Private Non-Profit Programs both Provincial & Federal (PNP) (FNP)

    • Provincial Co-operative Housing Program (PCO)

    • Rent-Geared-to-Income Program (RGI)

    • Rent Supplement Program

These communities are owned and operated on a not-for-profit basis by community based boards.

Within the Middlesex County region, there are 64 private non-profit and cooperative Housing Corporations, governed by Boards of Directors who are responsible for the overall management of the buildings.

Private Non-Profits are owned by sponsor organizations such as churches and service clubs. They are either self-managed or managed through a property management company. Most of the Non-Profit and Co-op units are designated for RGI Housing while the rest are market rent (not subsidized).  Market rent applicants apply directly to the non-profit.

Co-operative Non-Profits are similar to other non-profit housing corporations; however, each resident becomes a member and has a say in how the co-operative is operated.  Each member is expected to help in the day-to-day operations and the Board of Directors is established from members of the co-operative.

The London & Middlesex Housing Corporation (LMHC) is responsible for the rent-geared-to-income housing and rent supplement programs located 379 Dundas Street, Suite 207

Rent-geared-to-income means rent that does not exceed 30% of the combined gross household income that targets the neediest households in the City of London and the County of Middlesex.

Rent supplement is defined in the Social Housing Reform Act S.O. 2000, C.27, as amended.  Tenants pay their portion of rent to the private landlord and LMHC provides the rent supplement to the landlord, which is the difference between the tenant portion of the rent and the landlord market rent.
